The Rebirth of Raheem Sterling in Manchester City Under Pep Guardiola

"Rebirth" Raheem Sterling told Sky Sports after a 3-1 win over West Ham last month in which he scored twice. "I keep seeing that word." Keep playing like this and the Manchester City winger shouldn't expect to stop seeing it any time soon.

As well as that brace against West Ham, Sterling has also scored in a 4-0 win over Bournemouth and added a further goal - the pick of the bunch - in another 3-1 victory at Swansea on Saturday. It was the work of a young man playing with real confidence.

Sterling could be forgiven for feeling the talk of his demise had been grossly exaggerated anyway, a victim of the relative apathy that engulfed Manuel Pellegrini's final season at City coupled with the malaise that continues to afflict the England national team.

After all, Sterling did match his best ever goal tally in his first season following his £49m move from Liverpool. Perhaps that price tag alone explains why progress - and nothing but progress - seems to be tolerated from a player who is still only 21 years old.

 Sterling's improvement

                                             Season                 Dribbles                  Per 90
                                             2015/16                   41                          1.92
                                             2016/17                   22                          3.88

It was, as Sterling suggested, a "bit unfair" but only in the context of the huge expectations his talent encourages. With pace and trickery at his disposal, Sterling has a knack of gliding beyond opponents and a fragile frame that hints at a potential for vast improvement.

He'd given rather more than a glimpse of his capabilities under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, playing his part in the team's tilt at the title in 2013/14. This week he'll face the man who gave him that opportunity as City take on Celtic in the Champions League.

Rodgers agrees that Sterling's career has "drifted" in recent times but, tellingly, suggests that such a state of affairs will not continue. "You can see he's being coached," said the Celtic boss. And that's surely the crux of it where Sterling is concerned.

Pep Guardiola's arrival at City means many things for the Premier League this season, but among the more interesting prospects is the world's premier coach working with the most exciting talents in the country.

Much of the initial excitement has focused on how a ball-playing defender such as John Stones might flourish, but the early indications are that the future for Sterling could be every bit as intriguing. Right from the outset, Guardiola identified him as a priority.

"From the beginning I had a feeling this guy is good," he said. There was a phone call of support at the height of Sterling's Euro 2016 struggles and reports of reassuring conversations with coach Rodolfo Borrell, a man who'd worked with the player at Liverpool.

Initially, the emphasis was on instilling confidence in a youngster under pressure - one in danger of being stifled by a critical media and a hostile public. Guardiola spoke of wanting to "work with him and show him how good a player he is" first and foremost.

He added: "I spoke with him the same as I spoke with the rest of the players to say what we are looking for. Encourage, go out and play one against one, two against one. It doesn't matter if you lose the ball, we are there to sustain you. So just play.

"The people who have the quality to dribble have to dribble. The people who have the quality to beat a man with a pass, they have to do that. I like the wingers. I love to play the wingers. They play to go wide and take a risk in the last part of the field."

These words indicate that it's not merely a case of infusing Sterling with belief and ensuring he's engaged. Those are the precursors to success. As Rodgers has suggested, Guardiola's ultimate focus is on getting players to do the right things on the pitch. It's about coaching.

Guardiola might love wingers but his demands are specific. "He used to call it the three Ps," Thierry Henry told Sky Sports. "Play, possession and position. The most important one was position. You have to stay and trust your team-mates in order for the ball to come to you."

Shape is everything for Guardiola. "We need that," he said recently. "People who stay wide and have the quality one against one." It's only in the final third of the field that he expects players to go and express themselves. For players like Sterling to make the difference.

"That's when the freedom starts to come, in the last third," added Henry. "You start in a high position and wide but after that, in the last third, you can do whatever you want. He used to say to us, 'My job is to bring you up to the last third, your job is to finish it'."

The use of players like Henry and David Villa in the wide positions at Barcelona highlights how Guardiola sees his wingers. They need to be goalscorers too. And that's an aspect of Sterling's game that hasn't always been the strongest.

So far, it's gone well though. His neat finish against Swansea was impressive and he'll need to keep putting those opportunities away. Sergio Aguero seems certain to be the team's top scorer this season but the statistics show that it's Sterling who has had the most clear-cut chances of any City player.

That's partially because Guardiola's work on shape is designed to isolate wide men against their markers. They're expected to use that advantage. "He's even had a go at me in the first half for not dribbling as much as I should do," said Sterling after the West Ham game.

"The coach is someone that, if you lose the ball after a one-on-one, won't be angry with you," he added. "He'll always encourage you to continue by saying to you that if you don't get by once, twice, three times, you'll get by the next time. It removes pressure.

"In the game, when you're faced by two or three players, you know that there's a risk of losing the ball. But you know that the coach understands that risk. From the start of the season, I remember him telling me after a match, 'Don't ever stop yourself from dribbling'."
Raheem Sterling's successful (green) and unsuccessful (red) dribbles in the Premier League in 2016/17
Sterling's numbers so far this season reflect that. He's averaging 3.88 completed dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League in 2016/17. That's more than double the amount of successful dribbles he was managing last season under Pellegrini.

With 22 completed dribbles, there are only two players - Adnan Januzaj and Eden Hazard - who've beaten their man more often in the Premier League this season. However, those raw numbers only tell part of the story. It's where Sterling's been doing it that's significant.

No fewer than 10 of Sterling's completed dribbles have come within the opposition area. Remarkably, that's more than the other half a dozen top dribblers in the country combined. In defensive areas, Sterling maintains the shape. In the danger areas, he attacks his man.

 Premier League dribbles - 2016/17

Player                        Completed Dribbles                   Inside the Box
                    Eden Hazard                                   25                                           2
                    Adnan Januzaj                                25                                           2
                    Raheem Sterling                           22                                           10
                    Andros Townsend                          21                                            1
                    Wilfried Zaha                                 19                                            0
                    Sadio Mane                                    18                                            4
                    Paul Pogba                                     15                                            0

Show the player you trust him. Give him confidence. Ensure the instructions are straightforward and the demands are clear, but allow them to express themselves. It's proving an effective recipe. As Sterling put it recently: "Pep makes it simple."

Guardiola sees it the same way. "He has just focused on his job," said the coach. "That's it. When that happens he is going to do good things for us and the England national team. I'm pretty sure of that." The evidence so far would suggest he's right.

Fitness trackers may not help weight loss

A two-year study of almost 500 overweight people found wearing wristbands and other devices that monitor and give feedback on physical activity could result in less weight being lost than exercising tech-free.

A group of young adults was put on a low calorie diet, told to exercise more and had group counselling sessions as part of the University of Pittsburgh study - one of the first into the effectiveness of fitness trackers.

Six months into the study, half of the volunteers were also given a fitness tracker to monitor their progress.

After two years, those with the trackers had lost an average of 3.5kg, while those without had lost 5.9kg.

The scientists behind the study said the results had surprised them.

John Jakicic from the University of Pittsburgh told the Times: "When we started this, we hypothesised that we were going to see the opposite of what we found.

"We thought, 'Hey, if we add this technology to an already good programme, it will do even better.'"
Experts are still trying to fathom the results, but theories include that those wearing the trackers relied on them too heavily or may have felt demoralised or rewarded themselves with treats after checking their steps.

Dr Jakicic said: "One reason might be that the individuals started focusing solely on the activity information and paid less attention to other things that are really important, such as diet.

"They might have even felt, 'Oh, I'm really active today - I can reward myself by eating more."
The makers of Fitbit, one of the most popular fitness tracking devices, told NPR: "We are confident in the positive results users have seen from the Fitbit platform, including our wearable devices."
The company added that researchers use Fitbit and similar devices in clinical studies.

Apple approached McLaren about an investment or potential takeover.

McLaren says: "As you would expect, the nature of our brand means we regularly have confidential conversations with a wide range of parties, but we keep them confidential."

apple approachedmclaren
The Financial Times - which cites three sources it says have knowledge of the negotiations - said the loss-making Formula One team owner could be valued at between £1bn and £1.5bn.

McLaren said it was "not in discussion" with the US firm but that it regularly held "confidential conversations with a wide range of parties".

The statement did not deny that there had been an approach.

A deal could give Apple access to key automotive technology amid reports that it is working on a self-driving car.

It comes a couple of weeks after US firm Liberty Media agreed to buy Formula One in a £6bn deal.

Jasper Lawler, market analyst at CMC Markets, said: "Owning McLaren would be Apple waving a big flag over its intention to enter the car industry.

"As a high-end technology company, Apple appears to want to be at the high, cutting-edge end of the car industry too."

Apple has hired dozens of experts from the sector over the past year and is exploring making charging stations for electric cars.

It also invested $1bn (£800m) in Chinese ride-hailing service Didi Chuxing earlier this year.
Two years ago it paid $3bn (£2.3bn) for rapper Dr Dre's headphone and music streaming company Beats Electronics.

movezentFollowing the report that it had approached McLaren, Apple said it "does not comment on rumors or speculation".

The tech company's stock market value has recently been buoyed by promising sales of its latest iPhone 7 handset.

Apple has also been at been at the center of controversy over its tax arrangements with the European Commission ordering it to pay €13bn (£11bn) in back taxes to Ireland.

A McLaren spokesman said: "We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment.

"As you would expect, the nature of our brand means we regularly have confidential conversations with a wide range of parties, but we keep them confidential."

Brad Pitt has Cancelled an Appearance at the LA Premiere of His Latest Film Project Due To His "Family Situation".

 MOVEZENT
The actor has said he will not be attending the event for documentary Voyage Of Time, which he narrates, when it takes place at the California Science Centre Imax Theatre in Los Angeles on later.

It comes after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce last week, citing irreconcilable differences. She is fighting for physical custody of the couple's six children - Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and eight-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Jolie, 41, and Pitt, 52, known collectively as Brangelina, married in 2014 after 10 years together. Media speculation over the split has been rife since the announcement.

She is currently pregnant with her second child with long-term French boyfriend Guillaume Canet.

Releasing a statement explaining his decision to skip the Voyage of Time premiere, Pitt said he did not want to take attention away from the film.

He described the documentary as "an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential Imax film for children and families chronicling the birth of time".

He added: "I'm very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project, but I'm currently focused on my family situation and don't want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see."

Cristiano Ronaldo, Theo Walcott and Philippe Coutinho transfer latest

Cristiano Ronaldo
Graham Hunter brings us the latest transfer news regarding Theo Walcott, Philippe Coutinho and Cristiano Ronaldo, all of whom have been reportedly linked with moves away from their current clubs.
Coutinho to Barcelona?

Barcelona striker Neymar says Liverpool playmaker and compatriot Coutinho would suit Barcelona's playing style, which has fuelled speculation of a potential approach from the La Liga giants.

Phillipe Coutinho

HUNTER SAYS: "It makes sense. The players know each other. Coutinho has the skill-set and he's the right type of guy for the marketing that Barcelona like a lot indeed. It's something that you can see them coming back to but wages, price and availability are the problem. This is a story we'll be coming back to time and time again as this fella has the ability.
"At some stage Barcelona will have to look at that frontline of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and think 'are they good enough?' The answer for many years to come from that question is yes. Coutinho is safe for the moment but one day at the Camp Nou? Yeah.
"In the next couple of transfer markets? I don't think so."

Walcott to Barcelona?
Spanish paper AS claims that Barcelona will make a move for Walcott to add another option to their attack.
The Catalan giants lost Rafinha to a long-term injury and sold Pedro during the summer, leaving them a little short in attack.

HUNTER SAYS: "There's a degree of guesswork going on there at the moment because Rafinha is injured and Pedro has been sold. The biggest test facing the treble holders is they have a rather small squad. Walcott fits all the criteria apart from the most important one, availability and price.
"It's key to understand that Barcelona have a really high wage bill - they need to think about that element of financial fair play. At the moment, it [the Walcott deal] fits in terms of his skill and pace, but does it fit in terms of what Barcelona are going to do in the new market at Christmas? I don't think so."

Ronaldo to Manchester United?
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed last week that this could be Ronaldo's last year at Real Madrid. This has led to stories emerging linking the record breaking attacker with a move back to Manchester United.

HUNTER SAYS: "I thought it was very kind for Florentino Perez to come out and stand up Guillem's story. At the AGM over the last few days he genuinely refused to encourage people to think that Cristiano Ronaldo was going to finish his career at Real Madrid.
"What is being briefed around the power offices at the Bernabeu is that there was an enquiry and a bid from PSG. Clearly at that stage if Manchester United, who have yearned to get their major market and scoring property back for the last stage of his career, have seen that Ronaldo might be moving then they have the power to attract him to come back and relive the old times.
"The key thing is that it is feasible to argue that Real Madrid might cash in on Ronaldo if Jorge Mendes or the player came in and said they might like to go next summer."

The Reason Why T.I and Iggy Azalea are Apart

T.I and Iggy
In a Wednesday radio interview, “Whatever You Like” rapper T.I. broke the news that his working relationship with Iggy Azalea is as over as, well, Iggy Azalea. T.I. later “clarified” that Iggy is still his “partner” and insisted that “we’re focused on making the next Iggy record,” but no one—not T.I., and definitely not Iggy Azalea—seems to know exactly what’s going on between the performer and her longtime mentor.
Maybe it helps to understand the pair’s history. Way back in 2012, Iggy Azalea, with her blonde good looks and confusing southern drawl, was slated to be hip-hop’s next big thing. That was a simpler time, before Kanye West was a soon-to-be presidential candidate and “cultural appropriation” had yet to infiltrate the pop culture think piece machine. Naturally, southern rapper T.I. agreed to executive produce Azalea’s pseudo-southern “masterpiece”, The New Classic. When Interscope barred T.I. from the ongoing deal, Azalea decided not to sign with the major label.
The rest is hip-hop-lite history: the rapper released singles like “Murda Bizness,” “Work,” and “Fancy,” revolutionizing sorority pregames across America. In 2014, The New Classic debuted at number three on the Billboard 200, and quickly became the highest-charting female rap album since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday. Azalea was living a life that most passably talented blondes only dream of: dressing up as Cher Horowitz, wearing fun ponytail extensions, and even working with notorious donut criminal /woodland nymph Ariana Grande.
But like Icarus flying too close to the sun, or Ariana Grande’s tongue sliding too close to the donut, Azalea was in for a rude awakening. When, in 2011, the rapper rhapsodized about being a “runaway slave-master” on her remix track “D.R.U.G.S.,” the Internet quickly ran through all the stages of white lady rapper backlash, from “is this Kreayshawn?” to “Why should I care?” to “Wait…WTF?” to “please bring back Kreayshawn.” You don’t need to read Emily Post to know that appropriating and commodifying a black sonic culture and then making a slave-master joke is simply bad manners. Azalea quickly apologized, admitting that “it was a tacky and careless thing to say.”
But the Internet, armed with schadenfreude and scandalous screenshots, quickly attacked Iggy with a number of her own “tacky,” racist, homophobic tweets, ranging from 2010 to 2012 (the golden years of saying stupid shit on the Internet). Iggy’s totally careless response? “Remember there was a time when my Twitter was just for my friends and family to see.” So, to sum things up: Iggy Azalea doesn’t want to stop using racist stereotypes and making offensive jokes—she just years for the privacy of a segregated Twitter account. The future of hip-hop is here, and it’s whites-only.
Azealia Banks, our patron saint of telling it like it is, wasn’t about to let Iggy Azalea steal both her stage name and her entire culture. In the wake of Ferguson, Banks went fully off on Azalea, tweeting, “its funny to see people like Igloo Australia silent when these things happen...Black Culture is cool, but black issues sure aren’t huh?” She also went on Hot 97 and did a must-see interview on black erasure and Iggy Azalea’s general mediocrity. In addition to launching a thousand sassy, sarcastic “Igloo Australia”-themed Twitter handles, Banks’s crusade centralized all the anti-Iggy ire that had been floating around the interwebs. Suddenly, Iggy was more than just that omnipresent, hard-to-spell radio sensation—she was a full “10” on the 1-to-Macklemore scale of white hip-hop horribleness.
A hip-hop history lesson from A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip, a losing streak at the Grammys, and an avalanche of online shade followed in quick succession. Instead of addressing the errors of her ways, Azalea fought back by criticizing Banks’ “piss-poor attitude,” telling Q-Tip she was “not going to sit on Twitter & play hip-hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hip-hop,” and picking a fight with her Papa John’s delivery man.
Unlike everyone else and their mother, T.I. has stood by the melting Igloo Australia through thick and thin. He’s gone on record attesting to Azalea’s vision, insisting that “she should be judged based on that rather than her creed, nationality, or what country she’s from.” He even responded to Q-Tip with his own Twitter screed, explaining that Iggy, Eminem and other artists who “just so happen to be” white “allowed ME TO SEE, that not all white people out to steal our culture…There are some that merely wish to contribute to it.” He ended his Tweet-off with a message for Iggy to “KEEP SHINING, FOLLOW YOUR HEART, & STAY TRUE TO WHO U ARE!!!”
Even after Azalea cancelled her Great Escape Tour over the summer to take a much-needed “break” (AKA was forced to scrap her plans after all her openers quit and ticket sales stalled), T.I. stayed by her side like a man with a vested financial interest in the matter. Defending her controversial decision, T.I. said, “I feel any artist deserves the right to postpone or reschedule any presentation of their art. Any true fan should appreciate that.”
Additionally, Iggy Azalea was pressured out of performing at a Pittsburgh Pride event due to her history of homophobia and added insult to injury by chastising Britney Spears for failing to promote their single “Pretty Girls.” Gaining a reputation as a homophobe then proceeding to insult a gay icon isn’t just stupid—it’s career suicide.
No wonder T.I. is finally making moves to jump off this sinking ship, citing his belief that Iggy’s team “needed some time to adjust.” While Azalea swears that they’re still going steady, it seems like T.I. is losing confidence in Iggy’s vision. With no tour, no upcoming hit, and T.I. threatening to leave her in the lurch, it’s hard to imagine Iggy Azalea ever getting her mojo back. Bad news for Iggy Azalea, great news for anyone who’s looking to buy a tour’s worth of half-off, lightly used blonde ponytail extensions on eBay—or anyone who actually gives a damn about the future of hip-hop.

T.I Signed out from Columbia Records

T.I

Changing his name from T.I. to TIP is not the only transition the Atlanta rapper is undergoing in his music career. He has announced that he left Columbia Records.
TIP independently released Da' Nic EP September 11 through his Grand Hustle label and is preparing an album entitled The Dime Trap.
"Having just exited my deal at Columbia, I was a rogue artist, busting creativity, just waiting to put music in the marketplace," the Atlanta rapper says to HITS Daily Double, "so while I'm sorting out my next situation, I'm blessed enough to be able to control my destiny and put music out as quickly as I want to, and was able to release a TIP album, which I had wanted to do for a long time."
The rapper formerly known as T.I. released Paperwork last year with Columbia Records. His previous seven albums, including King, Paper Trail and No Mercy, were released through Atlantic Records

Hillary Clinton’s Advice To Kanye West If He Runs For President

hillary clinton and kanye west

Hillary Clinton recently offered Kanye West some words of advice if he decides to follow through on his promise to run for President in 2020.

“Well, if I'm going for my second term, to wait four years, but if I'm not ... be sure he has comfortable shoes because there's a lot of walking involved,” Clinton said during a recent interview with Extra, according to the New York Daily News.
Hillary Clinton met with Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian West at a Los Angeles fundraiser in early August.

According to Variety, around 250 people attended the event, which was held at the home of Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Tickets were priced at $2,700 per person and attendees included Usher, Kris Jenner, Jessica Alba and Tom Hanks, among others.
Kim Kardashian took to Twitter to share the moment:

Kendrick Lamar Writes a Letter To Tupac On his Death Anniversary

kendrick lamar letter to tu pac
Kendrick Lamar's inclination towards Tupac  is well documented. His admiration was perhaps best displayed on his most recent album, To Pimp A Butterfly, when he figuratively interviewed the late rapper during the track “Mortal Man” (the interview was pulled from a 1994 video back-and-forth).
Yesterday (September 13), marks the 19th anniversary of Pac's death and to commemorate it, the Compton native penned an open letter to his idol, which was featured on 2pac.com. The website has confirmed that it was indeed Kendrick Lamar who wrote the piece.

The title for To Pimp A Butterfly also drew its inspiration from Tupac. The album, which was originally supposed to be called, Tu Pimp a Caterpillar, would've had an abbreviation of Tu.P.A.C. This revelation coming from Lamar in an interview with MTV after the project was released.

Robin van Persie upset after Turkey thrashed Dutch

Van Persie

Robin van Persie admits he feels “really terrible” after the Netherlands' hopes of qualifying for Euro 2016 suffered a major blow after losing 3-0 to Turkey.

The Dutch need to overhaul a two-point deficit to third placed Turkey to snatch a play-off place.
Danny Blind's side have two games in October to save their campaign and avoid missing out on a major tournament for the first time since the 2002 World Cup.

And Fenerbahce striker Van Persie conceded his side have struggled in qualifying throughout.
"The whole qualifying tournament has all been very difficult," the ex-Manchester United forward said. "We now no longer have it in our own hands. I feel terrible, really terrible."

Van Persie was dumped as captain by Blind for the Iceland game but restored on Sunday after an injury to Arjen Robben.
And Blind said his team had "shot ourselves in the foot" with individual errors in the defeat against the Turks which followed a 1-0 home loss to Iceland on Thursday.

They were the Ajax legend's first two games in charge after replacing Guus Hiddink in the job.
"You let yourself enormously down if you give goals away so easily," he said. "We had a few good chances of our own before half-time.
"In total maybe more than Turkey but we did not reward ourselves."

The Dutch face Kazakhstan away on October 10 and finish their Group A campaign at home to the already-qualified Czech Republic three days later.
But they will have to rely on Turkey slipping up in their last two games away to the Czechs and at home to Iceland.

And midfielder Wesley Sneijder is baffled as to why the Dutch, who finished third in last year's World Cup, have performed poorly.
"Maybe it's bad luck, maybe it's a lack of confidence," the Galatasaray player said. "We let two easy goals in against us that had to do purely with a lack of concentration and focus."

50 Cent Takes A Picture With The Victim Of Rick Ross Assault, Battery and Kidnapping

50 Cent & Rick Ross

Remember when Rick Ross was charged with assault, battery and kidnapping for supposedly pistol-whipping one of his groundskeepers? Apparently Ross did the guy so bad that he couldn't eat solid food. Ross spent about a week in jail before getting out on $2 million bail. Well, now it seems that Ross' victim has somehow made friends with one of the MMG boss's biggest rivals, 50 Cent, as the two were pictured together at an EFFEN vodka special event.

Rooney scored a record-equalling 49th goal

Rooney

England confirmed their place at Euro 2016 after a routine dismissal of San Marino - but captain Wayne Rooney must wait to eclipse Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time goals tally.

Rooney scored a record-equalling 49th goal with an early penalty but was surprisingly substituted by England manager Roy Hodgson with history beckoning and the San Marino defence out on its feet. He must now try again against Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday.
There was still plenty for England to celebrate, though, as they made it seven wins out of seven in qualifying to ensure they will be in France next summer.
England were never under threat and it was another damage limitation exercise for San Marino, especially after Cristian Brolli headed into his own net before half-time.
Ross Barkley nodded in his first England goal after the break and England romped clear with two goals from substitute Theo Walcott and Harry Kane's clever lofted finish.

 ROONEY MADE TO WAIT
There was general astonishment - probably shared by Rooney himself - when he was substituted after 58 minutes needing just one goal to beat Charlton's record.
Rooney will surpass the former Manchester United player's mark eventually and perhaps it will be more fitting should he seal it against Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday rather than this quaint 6,600-capacity arena with many fans getting a free view from the hills that rise up at one end of the stadium.
It looked like the record was there for the taking when Rooney tucked away that early penalty but he had no further clear chances - although one would surely have come against a home defence that was exhausted in the last 25 minutes.

Goals
 HOW FRESH FACES FARED
England manager Roy Hodgson gave opportunities to players in the relatively sedate surroundings of San Marino and one man in particular took his chance with relish.
Swansea City's Jonjo Shelvey, making his first England appearance in almost three years, was positive in possession, happy to play a deeper role but also willing to get forward and show his range of passing. He capped his performance by making the fifth goal for substitute Kane.
He will have created a good impression with Hodgson through his discipline and work-rate and can feel he has worked his way back into the England fold.
Barkley also made his mark with a neatly-taken header from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross as well as a few trademark moments of quality.
It was a tougher night for Leicester City's Jamie Vardy, who struggled to get into the action and, for a short while in the second half, became embroiled in a running battle with San Marino defender Giovanni Bonini.
Everton's John Stones, at the centre of so much speculation recently as Chelsea were willing to pay in excess of £30m for his services, had little to do other than handle the unique pressure of ensuring San Marino did not score their first goal of the Euro 2016 qualifiers on his watch.

ARE ENGLAND IN SHAPE FOR EURO 2016
Well, they will definitely be there and, as the first team to qualify (hosts France apart) Hodgson has some time for experimentation in the final three qualifiers.
England will not travel to France among the favourites but there is some fine young talent in this squad in the shape of the likes of Barkley, Luke Shaw, Kane, Stones and, of course, Raheem Sterling, who was rested on Saturday.
Hodgson will hope they continue to develop rapidly over the next 12 months alongside established, experienced players such as Rooney.
This should mean England can travel with hope and optimism. But potential winners? That is a long stretch.

England
 WHAT THEY SAID
England striker Wayne Rooney: "It's a proud moment to equal Sir Bobby Charlton's record. My aim is to push on and try and help the team win on Tuesday and break the record.
"It would have been great if the record had happened tonight. Obviously the tradition of Wembley and to break the record at Wembley would be great."
England manager Roy Hodgson: "I am more than satisfied and we won it with a good margin.
"One or two who weren't in contention to play on Tuesday night have pushed their claims and Jonjo Shelvey deserves a mention."

 HODGSON WILL BE DELIGHTED
Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas on BBC Radio 5 live: "There have been some decent performances from England. Ross Barkley stepped it up in the second half, Nathaniel Clyne bombed up and down the right flank and Jonjo Shelvey has hardly given the ball away.
"England manager Roy Hodgson will be delighted with his team's discipline, energy and professionalism."

MAN OF THE MATCH:  JONJO SHELVEY

Jonjo
The Swansea man impressed on his return to the national team, winning his second cap. The midfielder staked a claim for a regular place
